First visit to Whitehorse?

A great place to start is at the Visitor's Center on 2nd Ave.  Their video presentation will give you an excellent overview of Whitehorse and the Yukon, and the helpful staff will be happy to give you detailed travel information.

Be sure to pick up one of the free booklets that has Whitehorse on the cover, which you will find on the counters of most local businesses.  Inside you'll find much useful local information including maps of the Whitehorse area.  You will also find booklets available for other Yukon communities; they also will have their name on the front cover.

Some things you shouldn't miss while in town... (for more info click on the appropriate link)

Parks Canada has an audio-video presentation of the history of the sternwheelers on the Yukon River, followed by an excellent tour of SS Klondike sternwheeler. It is located between 2nd and 4th avenues downtown along the river.

The entrance to Miles Canyon is just upstream from the sternwheeler off of Robert  Service Way, which is the south entrance road in and out of downtown.  (See the foldout map in Whitehorse booklet above.)

The Fish Ladder is across the Yukon River, just downstream from the dam, and is well worth the time.  If you walk down the ramp to the river, you'll get a stunning look at the river and the intake for the fish ladder.  At the right time of year, you'll be able to see the salmon going through the ladder.

There are several museums located in and around Whitehorse, and you can get information on them at the Visitor's Center.

Here are some links to local business services you may find useful...

For the best in tire service see Paul at Yukon Tire on the corner of Industrial Road and Two Mile hill.  Turn at the yellow flashing light and look for the Shell sign on your left.  They also have an RV dump station and you can refill your propane tanks as well.

For lube & oil service and RV repairs, see Wayne at Superior RV & Lube, located on Jasper Road around the corner behind Yukon Tire.   He has hoists big enough to lift some of the largest motorhomes, and the expertise to go with it.

For RV parts and repairs there are two companies to choose from:

    Fireweed RV Services Ltd...see Dave;

    Philmar RV Service & Supply...see Mary Anne;
